Please be aware that there are different types of wedding ceremonies in Mexico.
- Legal Ceremony:
This is the only ceremony that will be recognized as legal once you return to your home country. This is also referred to as a civil ceremony. It is performed in Spanish and translated to English by one of our professional wedding coordinators.
Legalized wedding certificate $250.00 USA
As of June 1st United States requested that weddings performed in the Caribbean including Mexico, require the apostille seal, this procedure will have a cost of $250.00 US and includes an extra copy, apostille seal, translation and FedEx and it will take 30 to 45 working days.
- Symbolic Ceremony:
This ceremony is not recognized as legal in Mexico or your home country. Packages included the services of a non-denominational minister but can also be performed by a religious order for an additional fee. This type of ceremony is typically performed for couples already married and wishing to have a wedding ceremony, those thinking of a legal ceremony at a later date or those wishing to renew vows with their loved one.
- Non-denominational Minister
The symbolic ceremony is performed by a non-denomination minister. Some ministers speak English and for those that do not, the service is translated into English by our professional wedding coordinator.
- Religious (Catholic or Jewish) Ceremony: This ceremony is available alone or in conjunction with a Civil Ceremony. An additional fee of $500 (Catholic) and $1200 (Jewish) will apply and is not included in any of the packages.
Catholic Ceremony requires both Bride and Groom Birth Certificates, Baptism Certificates, Confirmation Certificate and a letter from the Local Prist adressed to the Prist in Cancun Mexico allowing them to marry in Mexico, these most be receive by Lomas Travel 3 months prior to the Wedding Date.
All Civil marriages that take place in Mexico under Mexican law are completely legal in Mexico. A foreigner marrying in Mexico must legalize their marriage in their country of birth/residence. This is completed by registering your marriage certificate at your local City Hall.
Required Documents for Bride and Groom
- Valid passports.
Although passports are not required for US and Canadian citizens for entry into Mexico, they are mandatory for a legal wedding to be performed. Passports must be presented to the onsite wedding coordinator at the time of the wedding consultation in Cancun.
- Tourist Card.
These are provided to all persons on the plane prior to arrival into Cancun’s International Airport. Names on Tourist Card and Passport MUST be the same.
- Blood test to determine blood type, HIV and STD. Tests must be taken at the resort and results are ready within 24 hours. Fees of approximately $250.00 per coupple apply (unless stated as an inclusion in your package) and include a health certificate required for the a legal ceremony to be performed.
- If the groom is divorced no additional documentation is needed. If the bride is divorced (must be for one 1 year before remarrying) and her passport is under her maiden name no additional documentation is needed. If the bride’s passport is under her ex-husbands last name than she must have her birth and divorce certificate translated in to Spanish by an official translator and Apostille Seal . This is required for a legal ceremony to be performed. The Apostille is necessary when issuing a document from one country to another for legal purposes. - If a bride or grooms former spouse is deceased then a copy of the death certificate is required. This is required for legal ceremonies only.
- Bride and Groom must arrive to their hotel 3 business days prior to the legal wedding ceremony date in order to complete the blood tests and process the necessary documents. Saturday and Sunday are not considered working days. If you arrive on Saturday, you can get married on Thursday as the 3 working days would be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
- If a bride or grooms former spouse is deceased then a copy of the death certificate is required. This is required for legal ceremonies only.
- Symbolic and Religious ceremonies do not require the bride and groom to submit a passport, death certificate, copy of divorce decree, have a blood test or arrive 3 business days prior to the ceremony.
- Religious ceremonies performed by a priest or rabbi (not a non-denominational minister) require official letters from the bride and grooms house of worship. Please ask you wedding coordinator for details.
Required Documents for Witnesses – Civil Ceremony
Legal ceremonies require the bride and groom to have 4 witnesses. It is not required for symbolic/religious ceremonies. If the couple provides their own witnesses the following information is needed.
- A completed Civil Ceremony Form (available through your wedding coordinator) indicating witnesses name, age, nationality, home address and occupation.
- Valid passport or driver’s license.
- Tourist Card.
- Witnesses must arrive to the hotel 3 business days prior to the legal wedding ceremony date in order to complete the document process.
- Witnesses must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the ceremony.
- Witnesses can be provided by the resort if the bride and groom choose at a charge of $20 per witness payable to the hotel directly in cash.
Confirmation of Wedding Day and Time
In order to confirm a wedding day and time a completed wedding application and $200.00USD non refundable deposit must be received and emailed to weddingsales@lomas-travel.com or faxed to 011 52 9988 819406. Once received, weddings will be confirmed back to the wedding couple within 48 hours. Please note:
- Weddings are performed seven days a week except Mexican holidays:
January 1st, February 5th, Easter weekend, May 1ts, May 5th, September 15th, September 16th, November 1ts, November 2th, November 20th, December 12th, December 24th, December 25th and December 31st.
- Wedding ceremonies are performed 24 hours a day, must requested times based on daytime savings:
April through September – Every hour 11am to 6pm
October through March – Every hour 11am to 4pm
- Please consider Mexican Holidays when reserving your wedding date as they will not be included in the 3 day requirement.
Wedding consultations are held at the resort Monday to Saturdays. The bride and groom will attend their wedding consultation the day after their arrival.
Weddings must be booked in advance.
A $300 cancellation fee will apply to weddings cancelled inside of 30 days. |
